When 24 started almost 7 years ago, Kiefer Sutherland hesitated whether a series with plots developing within a complete day would work. After having this project back and forth, they ultimately gave it shot. It's so joyful that they did, cause it turned out to be one of the best action shows out there. You would think a show that needs to go through a whole plot within 24 hours wouldn't work and become boring, but it's everything but boring.

Still Great...and looking forward to 8!!!
I've noticed how some TV shows seem to go on and on with the same plot for like 10 seasons. It gets old. But I really think with 24, even though the basic plot is the same, there are always fresh ideas, and very new and interesting characters in each season. All I have to say is that I'm very excited for the next season which comes out Jan 17th on FOX!!!

Its too addictive- especially the box sets
Its like drugs or something. Its always about the next episode. Life goes on hold. 24. Jack. Save the world Jack. Do it Jack. Dammit. Just hook it to my veins!

Additctive Escapism
I've been with Jack since day one and good grief its a bloody thriller- you never really know what the writers have in stall for us (other than Jack staying alive until the end of the day) and they take the viewers to extremes along with the characters until the wee hours. Anyone who's ever had a box set will know what I mean.
Viewers enjoy seeing the pro's and con's (fitting for this site) of the left and right of US national and foreign policies being debated. The writers let you come to your own view rather than tell you what's right. It works on loads of levels.

It's always interesting and fast-moving.
After a while you usually get tired on a show. Always the same stuff over and over again. 24 doesn't have that problem, since every season is really a new plot. The creators make sure to fill it up with as many incidents possible, so Jack Bauer won't ever have to stop moving around and beat the bad guys.

Jack is too good.
A realistic character is a character with flaws. Jack is stronger than a one-eyed giant, which ultimately somehow flaws the credibility instead of the character. There's also Chloe that is so professional at what she does, you could tell her to create better products than Microsoft and she would do it within a minute. On the other hand, that shouldn't be too hard.

Great acting.
Kiefer is of course on of the top actors currently alive, and that shows in 24. He IS Jack Bauer and know one could be able to make it with the same style and credibility Kiefer does it. Of course everyone else in it are great performers, except maybe Chloe.

Some serious plot holes.
This is something all action series have, but some more than others. This is on the "more" side. Granted, you can't make a show within 24 hours without holes, but holes are annoying, whether they are a must or not.

It's really 24 hours.
At least that's the idea they want to give us that the show is during 24 hours. I believe it. Why? Because there are moments when we see what everyone does in a specific time, and then Jack might drive a car, Chloe drink coffee and the president sleep. Or at least you get the idea, they try to avoid showing that there's action through the whole episode and it works.

No deepness whatsoever.
Let's face it, 24 is not for those who like drama. Sure, they try to have some dramatic character relationships, but 24 is clearly an entertainment show alone. A good one, but if you look for more soul it's not something for you.

Everyone's point of view .
In 24 there's not one hero, but we get to see things develop through several character's eyes. It's interesting cause that way you feel like big brother, you know about everyone while Jack only knows what he sees. Of course within 24 hours he also knows everything, but we're still plenty ahead of him. For instance we know Jack will always win fights, but he's not as sure about that.

Same basic concept.
A short summary of all seasons: Jack has problems with his health and/or family, the president gets in trouble and some bad guys threaten the country with nuclear weapons or deadly viruses. That's pretty much it; only the execution differs the seasons apart.

You always know who the bad guy is half way into the season.
If you've seen some seasons of 24, you'll clearly recognize a pattern in them. The villain is always the guy you least expect and with the highest rank. It can be someone from their team, the CTU, the president himself. Just look for someone acting nicer than he should.
